International Women’s Day Celebration
Today, International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Savade village under the Pancham Project, jointly organized by Maharashtra Foundation America and Pukar Sanstha.
The program began with women exchanging various flowers they had brought themselves. This beautiful gesture conveyed the message of “Unity in Diversity” and marked the start of the event.
After this, a dialogue and discussion were held with the women on topics such as gender equality, the importance of women’s existence, why gender equality is necessary, the prejudices that exist in society regarding women, how incorrect they are, and how we can break these stereotypes. The discussion also covered why International Women’s Day is celebrated. The contributions and achievements of women in various fields were presented through a poster exhibition.
Further, information was shared about various cooperative schemes available for women.
During the event, a cricket competition and a spoon-and-marble (chamcha-goti) game were organized for the women. Initially, many women said things like “We cannot do this” or “We have never even held a bat or ball.” However, later they confidently picked up the bat, stepped onto the field, and celebrated the moment with great joy and enthusiasm.
The program concluded with an energetic Adivasi Tarpa dance. At the end, Tulsi (holy basil) saplings were gifted to all the women as a token of appreciation on the occasion of Women’s Day before bidding them farewell.
